Nairn
was born in the isolated and virtually unknown Mormon settlement Camp Nephii
located in modern day California. He was the only son of Annie Gibbons, the 14
year old 32nd wife of Mormon Elder Moroni Gibbons (her 70 year old second cousin
(once removed)). The first seven years of Nairn's life were nearly intolerable.
This was because his dwarven stature, alongside his relatively dark skin (being
able to stay in direct sunlight for 2 hours unburned) identified him an aberrant
Lamanite descendant of Cain in the eyes of the Elders of Camp Nephii. It was
also rumoured that Annie had committed Adultery with the Devil since there were
only pale and delightsome young white cousins for many miles. Annie and Nairn
were shunned by the fearful Mormons and were given a small hut in the mountains
to live. Despite these conditions Annie always seemed able to feed her son and
never lacked in supplies.
Near
Nairn's 8th Christmas, Camp Nephii was raided by Hell's Angels. The Mormon
Elders were killed and women were rounded up into trucks for sale in the
Confederated American States and in Aztlan. Annie managed to seduce and later
marry the leader of this gang and Nairn spent the next two years of his life as
a junior Hell's Angel. Raids on Anglo and Native settlements were the norm for
these years and Nairn was given a gun and allowed by his smiling stepfather to
lead the charge on a small dirtbike.
During
Nairn's 10th year (when he stopped getting taller) the 23 men of the Hell's
angels band suddenly fell ill and died. Annie, along with the other four women
in the group were taken in by shaman Winking Coyote and his family. Within a
month Annie was married to the shaman's aging father (an even more powerful and
seldom seen shaman) and Nairn's last stepfather's Harley was modified to fit
him. Nairn was tattooed with a Howling Coyote and given the task (by his new
smiling stepfather) to patrol the badlands and keep his mother safe from rival
Biker gangs in the badlands.
When
he was 14 Nairn awoke to find himself alone in his camp with a full tank of gas
and a week's supplies. A letter from his mother was folded in his hand
explaining his need to prove himself to her by not tolerating oppression
anywhere. She also noted that he was worthless until he could prove himself a
hero.
Nairn
was taken in by small struggling gangs operating in California often swayed by
charismatic Metahuman leaders who could use their racial plight as an excuse to
commit any crime on humans (or anglos in general). He earned the name
Ballbearing for his solid stature and his ability to keep on rolling.
At
age 19 Nairn realized that he wasn't doing much good for anyone. He was ashamed
to return to his perfect mother for his atrocities but still felt loyal to his
gang boss. He decided to wander a bit and was referred to a Fence named Jokasta
in Seattle area. He was told that by gaining Jokasta's trust he may meet
someone who could help the plight of his kind (contacts: political activist, GM
have fun here as this can be any kind of leader) and return to his mother a
hero.
Summary:
Nairn
is cold and ruthless to those he perceives as enemies (he knows no other way)
but can be a naive idealist. He is intelligent only within the context of
fulfilling mission objectives. His lack of sociological awareness, his stubborn
resolve, and his ability to calmly make any end justify the means makes him a
perfect agent and even tool for the wise opportunist.
